On Saturday, February 12, the day before the Grammys, the “Artist” http://www.davidmichaellee.com/indexold.html, used the recently cleaned family minivan to cart three couples (he and his wife included) to Los Angeles for the weekend to attend the opening of his show with Michael Kindred Knight, http://michaelkindredknight.com/, at Autonomie, http://autonomie333.com/. We noshed at Cole’s on 6th Street right in the heart of Downtown http://colesfrenchdip.com/. Each of us trying a different variety of French dip sandwich. We walked a few blocks to Crewest, www.crewest.com to view the current “Blow Up L.A.” exhibit. On the way back to the hotel to change, we stopped at Bottega Louie, www.bottegalouie.com on South Grand for a quick drink with the beautiful people and buy some of the most gorgeous and delicious macaroons that any of us have ever witnessed. (Macaroons go really well with red wine.) The men walked to the opening while the women opted to take a cab. After a while, four of us ventured down the street to Pete’s Café and Bar, www.petescafe.com/ on S. Main Street. On the way, we were pulled into a building with enormous decorated papier mache sculls and “Ladies of Guadalupe”. We struck up a conversation with the folks from Le Muerte Vive, www.lamuertevive.com/ , bought a couple t-shirts and danced the cumbia with Nancy, the “nasty nun”. After the opening, we dined at Church & State Bistro, http://www.churchandstatebistro.com/ , on Industrial after which we retired to the Sheraton. The group was pretty subdued the next morning, but we were up for a walk to the Pantry for breakfast. When we got there, the line of customers was around the building so we opted for Riordan’s Tavern, www.riordanstavern.com/ on South Figueroa where we all had lovely breakfasts. We even saw a man in a king costume a la Burger King walking down the street. While K was scrolling through pictures of the best and worst dressed at the Grammys, she learned that the “king” was actually Zamora, a new age Venezuelan pianist. Who would have thought?
